Aaron Morgan Brown

(b. 1964) Aaron Morgan Brown, originally from Wichita, Kansas, received his BFA from the University of Kansas, and his MFA from Syracuse University, graduating summa cum laude from both institutions and earning a coveted University Fellowship from Syracuse.

The idea for a painting or drawing always starts as a “living collage” in his head, which in turn becomes his working reference. He brings disparate images together to form a new and cohesive whole—an intersection of observation and imagination.

Brown works in a manner that could be described as contemporary magic realism or “constructed dreaming”, using his own perception and memory to create alternative realities.

The emphasis is on exactitude, in order to render a dreamlike atmosphere of displacement. His subjects range from multifigure narratives to animals in domestic interiors to nontraditional still-life tableaux.
